1. The Scanner
The name of this Méthode Dolfino® technique certainly gives you a hint about its usefulness. Like the medical scanner that detects anomalies in the body, this technique makes it possible to spot unwanted elements, both physical and emotional. During the trance, the Young Me will symbolize these discomforts, which the guided person can then remove, transform, or replace.
The Scanner technique is so effective that it provides immediate relief from pain and other emotional and physical discomforts. During a session, you can use the Scanner as a standalone tool or weave it into other techniques, depending on the guided person’s needs and goal.
Like nature, the Young Me abhors a vacuum and fills it... with symbols. It keeps every experience or memory by symbolizing it. Then it collects these various symbols and places them in the body. The Young Me’s world is full of imagination. As a result, symbols take a multitude of forms and vary freely from one person to another:
Symbols from everything experienced joyfully and pleasantly are rather pleasant to carry with you. On the other hand, symbols arising from more difficult periods of life often represent a heavier, more uncomfortable load to carry. This cargo frequently crystallizes into emotional pain or physical ailments.
To do a proper cleanup, the Young Me has no need whatsoever for you to understand or rationalize the possible meaning of the symbols. In fact, trying to analyze the symbols of the unconscious is a bit like wanting to open Pandora’s box...
It is from this myth that the expression “don’t open Pandora’s box” was born, which in our case illustrates the needless suffering that can result from searching for the causes of a wound, a disappointment, or an event.
It is inevitably your Rational Me, with its culture of “why,” that wants to decode the Young Me’s symbols. Remember that rationalizing a symbol often makes the technique less effective.
Interpretation is misleading and adds nothing to this cleanup process. In fact, it’s more of a self-sabotage strategy, since your logical reasoning tends to pull you right back into your comfort zones and old habits. In short: resist the urge to interpret the symbols.
With the Méthode Dolfino® Scanner technique, you’ll be perfectly able to take care of the unconscious’s symbolism without any interpretation. In doing so, you’ll easily be able to act at the source of both emotional and physical pain to obtain relief.
Before starting the Scanner technique, it is essential to check whether a medical diagnosis has been made. It’s best to know the possible sources of the pain before choosing to reduce it.
For example, since sudden chest pain can be a symptom of heart trouble, you must refrain from reducing this type of pain. This kind of physical manifestation shows that the person needs prompt medical attention. It is best to advise them to see their doctor.
Likewise, if you are relieving another type of pain, such as a toothache, it’s important to point out to the guided person that they need to see a dentist to find out the cause of the problem. The Scanner technique can be very useful while waiting for an appointment, but it in no way replaces a visit to the specialist.
Before starting the technique, set a measurable goal. To do this, have the person rate the pain on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being very mild pain and 10 being unbearable pain). This rating helps target the desired pain level as the goal to reach.
This also helps illustrate the intensity of the feelings (sensations) if it is emotional pain.
Redo this 1 to 10 rating after the technique. This will let you measure how effective the technique was.
As mentioned earlier, a fuse is a safety formula meant to ensure that everything goes as well as possible for the person by avoiding unwanted effects. When it comes to the Scanner technique, using the following fuse must be systematic at the end of the technique. It also sets a pace of change perfectly suited to the guided person. The fuse comes down to a simple sentence such as:
“The changes will happen at exactly the right pace, if that’s good for you (or for me, in self-hypnosis)...”
This technique is described as part of guiding a third person. In self-hypnosis, follow the steps while guiding yourself.
Prerequisite: have the pain rated on a scale of 1 to 10.
Have the physical or emotional pain located (for emotional pain, if necessary, do a full body scan to locate it precisely)
Have the physical or emotional pain given a symbol (give the person at least three suggestions, ideally five, if they don’t come up with the symbol right away)
For the next three steps, as the guide, question the guided person:
Name the symbol given by the person, for example a ball, a rod, a plate...)
If needed, give at least three suggestions for an extraction method, for example pulling it out, sucking it out, making it explode, etc.
Here too, if needed, give at least three suggestions, for example colored light, cotton wool, flowers, etc.
For the next two steps, guide the person through these actions:
Have them carry out the extraction of the pain by removing the symbol.
Have them replace the removed symbol with another, more beautiful symbol that feels good.
Set up the protective fuse verbally: “The changes will happen at exactly the right pace, if and only if it’s good for you...”
Restart the assessment and continue through the different steps of the Scanner as needed, until the pain has reached a level acceptable to the person.
